Becoming
a graduate is a big accomplishment in a person’s educational life; it is the
stage when we start to think about our career path but unlike Science,
Engineering or Arts graduates who at least know their future working field we
Commerce graduates are somewhat confused on what field to choose after
graduation.
In this
article; I will cover 5 fields which are very reputed in the business world.
The beauty of these fields is that there is no retirement and person can decide
at any point of time that weather he wants to do a job or he or she can set up
own practice.
1. CHARTERED ACCOUNTANCY: (CA)
If you
have a keen interest in accounting, taxation & auditing and want to do a
career in it then the course of Chartered Accountancy is the ultimate course
you can get. A lot of dedication is required to complete this course but if you
complete this course the possibilities of growth are unlimited. A Chartered
Accountant aka CA can go into a full time Job with a Company with a starting
salary packages range from Rs. 30,000 to multiple lakhs of rupees per month as
later being offered to toppers recently.
There is
also another option for CA is start his/her own CA firm. CA can provide
consultancy services in the field of accountancy, finance, taxation. Government
of India recognize practicing CA as an expert is these fields and attestation
of a practicing CA is compulsory on financials and many legal forms and
documents of the Companies and other business organizations.
Structure of a CA course:
There are
3 levels of examinations CPT, IPCC and Final but if student want to take
admission after completing graduation then he/she may be eligible to directly
take admission in IPCC levels. There is also compulsory practical training of 3
years which can be started after passing any group of IPCC level.

2. COMPANY SECRETARY (CS)
The
profession of Company Secretary is more focused on legal aspects of the
business; the Company Secretary has in depth knowledge major corporate laws
such as Companies Act, Securities Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act and
various other laws applicable to the Companies in India. A passed out Company
Secretary can obtain a Job easily as there is a legal requirement to
compulsorily appoint a CS if the capital of the Company crosses a certain limit
and the second thing is that the demand of a CS in corporate sector is more
than the availability of eligible candidates.
CS can
also start his practice and can act as a corporate law advisor to the Companies.
Government of India and Ministry of Corporate Affairs also gives attestation
power to the practicing CS in many corporate and legal forms and returns such
as secretarial audit and annual returns etc. of the Companies.
Structure of a CS course:
There are
3 levels of examinations Foundation, Executive and Professional but if student
want to take admission after completing graduation then he/she may be eligible
to directly take admission in executive level. There is also a compulsory
practical training which can be started on or after executive level.
Duration of practical
training: Three years on registration
to Executive Programme or Two
years after passing the Executive Programme or One year after passing the Professional Programme.

3. COST AND WORKS ACCOUNTANT: (CWA)
A Cost Accountant is a person who offers to
perform or perform services involving the costing or pricing of goods and
services or the preparation, verification or certification of cost accounting
and related statements. Like CA and CS, CWA is the third profession which has
attestation powers on business related forms and reports. Cost Audit is
compulsory for public sector Companies and certain type of non-government
Companies as well. A Cost Accountant can land a job in public sector Companies
and large manufacturing organizations or he/she can also start own precise and
can provide costing related consultancy to Companies and other organizations.
Structure
of the CWA course:
There are
3 levels of examinations Foundation, Intermediate and Final but if student want
to take admission after completing graduation then he/she may be eligible to
directly take admission in Intermediate level. There is also a compulsory
practical training which can be started on or after executive level.
Duration of practical training:
Three years in specified organizations.
Student can appear for final level after completed the training for a period of
6 months

4. CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP):
Financial
planning is an important aspect for an individual or a Company. CFP is a global
certification course in the field of financial planning. Financial Planning Standard
Board of India is the governing body which conducts CFP examinations in India.
This CFP course can give you employment opportunities in banks, distribution
houses, AMC, insurance Companies, equity broking and Financial Planning firms
etc. as these sectors offer financial products to their clients.
CFP can also do the
individual practice and can offer financial planning services to individuals
and businesses.
Structure of the CFP course:
A
candidate must be HSC/12th pass at the time of enrollment and has to
complete the Education criterion, which is passing the following four
examinations either through self study or through training support from any one
of FPSB India’s approved Education Partners.
1. Risk Analysis & Insurance Planning (Exam 1)
2. Retirement Planning & Employee Benefits (Exam 2)
3. Investment Planning (Exam 3)
4. Tax Planning & Estate Planning (Exam 4)
5. Advanced Financial
Planning (Exam 5)
These Exams are facilitated
by NSE and conducted online on NCFM platform on NSE’s examination centers and
other NSE networked sites throughout India.

5. BACHELOR OF LAW
Law is among the well-liked career options in the world for a
long period. Anybody can choose to analyze law so long as one has the
enthusiasm for it. India has some of the complex laws in the world so the
requirement of a Law professional is imminent in every sector.
Students can certainly opt to specialize in
every of the various choices offered such as Civil Law, Criminal Law, Patent Law, Corporate Laws, and
so on. A qualification in law not merely enables you to practice as a lawyer
in the courts but additionally there are lots of opportunities for a law
graduate in jobs in companies like
corporate administration, legal services and also administrative facilities.
Structure
of Law Course:
Students may either do a three-year law
program after graduation or even a 5 years course after 12th
from law collages. As per new rule an entrance exam is compulsory for taking
admission for 3 years law degree course. Also students need to attend collage
lectures which are mostly morning sessions.
Important Advice: If you are thinking that the Courses listed
above are time consuming and has rigorous practical training periods then you
are correct but you should think the bigger picture that after clearing one
these courses your future will be so bright and you will have your own
organization or working on an important position like CFO, Legal head etc in a
Company. I myself started my CS course after graduation and now after 4.5
years I am into CS practice.

courses are tough to clear if you do not have proper planning and systematic
